Detergents, soaps, cosmetics, or other products can be harsh on the surfaces they are being used on. Whether this might be furniture, fabrics, or even skin, hair, or teeth. Usually, it’s hard to promote a product’s gentleness or compare it to harsher competition, especially since negative product characteristics would be shown only after minutes of usage or even later.

Wet a clean and dry sponge with tap water and apply the product to be tested (e.g. soap, toothpaste, etc.) to build a lather.
Gently wipe the sponge onto the tester for a few seconds and leave behind the excess foam.
Wait for 60 seconds, then rinse with tap water.
A color change to white indicates an aggressive surfactant. The less stronger the color change, the milder the product used.
