Benefit is one of the top color cosmetics providers in the UK. They also have some products that have skincare benefits. Therefore, the team wanted to bring to focus the POREfessional franchise of the brand, which targets big and visible pores. They wanted to determine the consumer’s skin type with the help of the tool and their well-trained POS beauty advisors. The tool was to be used as an ice breaker that could lead to product recommendation, consumer engagement, and drive sales.
How did USP Solutions help?
Once the USP team was briefed on Benefit’s need, they developed a two-step skin type tester that diagnosed the consumers’ skin sebum level and analyzed it against a sebum level scale. This result of the consumers’ individual skin type helped steer the consumer to the right product choice.

First, Benefit Cosmetics was looking for a highly engaging demo tool to be used at the POS. Their other primary goal was to prove the mattifying efficacy of “the POREfessional MATTE RESCUE”.
The benefits team was looking for a DEMO tool that could determine a consumer’s skin structure within seconds – once before applying the product, and once having applied Matte Rescue; the results to prove the product’s efficacy.
The USP Solutions’ challenge was to translate Benefit’s needs to a brand activation tool that enabled consumers to touch and feel the brand, thus demonstrating the efficacy of their super mattifying gel “the POREfessional – MATTE RESCUE”. The experts at USP Solutions knew that to demonstrate product truth, they had to find a way to engage the consumers’ senses.
USP Solutions developed concepts, which were sent to the Benefit marketing team for review. The experts at USP Solutions proposed that the Shine Level Test was the best technological match for this campaign.
Once it was decided how the haptic tester experience could be implemented in the campaign, USP took complete responsibility, handling everything from artwork implementation to printing and on-time delivery.
