Nivea – Make Up Clear Foam

About the project

Nivea was looking for a consumer engaging tool which could prove the new product’s cleansing efficacy to consumers easily and reliably. The Nivea An activation tool which was able to raise awareness, truly engage consumers and last but not least – was able to prove the superiority of the product. To fully meet the brand activation goals, it also had to be a 100 % customized, reflecting the uniqueness of the Nivea brand in Indonesia.

The challenge for USP Solutions was to translate the Nivea team’s needs to a brand activation tool which consumers cannot just easily understand, but which enables them to see and feel the products cleansing superiority.

USP Solutions developed initial concepts, which were sent to the Nivea marketing team for review. Once it was decided how the haptic tester experience could be implemented, USP took complete responsibility, handling everything from artwork implementation to printing and on-time delivery.

The Facial Residue Tests white surface displays all residue on the facial skin by pressing the whole test area of the test strip onto the facial skin for 3 to 5 seconds. Within seconds the residue test will show how effective your cleanser has worked – even better than any competitive product.

About the project

“Oily, normal or dry skin?” – was the question the NIVEA team wanted to evoke and answer simultaneously with the help of USP. The aim of this Omni-channel-fit solution was not only engage consumers, but to educate them about their skin.

What was the challenge?

The NIVEA Team was searching for a way to guide their consumers to the right product choice out of their skin care range. They also needed a highly engaging solution which, on one hand, educated consumers, and on the other hand, could also be used by beauty advisors in-store.

How did USP Solutions help?

USP Solutions’ main aim was to turn NIVEA’s expectations into a highly engaging activation tool that fueled consumer excitement. Achieving this was made possible through educating the consumer about their skin type and allowing them to experience the brand through a haptic approach.
After receiving prototypes that varied in size and shape from USP Solutions the NIVEA team agreed the Skin Type Tester was the suitable technology match for this activation.
As soon as both sides had a clear picture of how the sensory marketing tools would be used in the activation, USP took on the next steps – artwork creation, printing and on-time delivery.

How does the tester work?

The USP Skin Type Test enables consumers to understand their skin’s sebum level, giving them a moment of truth. The strip reacts to sebum on the skin by displaying dark dots, allowing the consumer to determine their individual skin type. Knowing whether she/he has dry, normal, combination or oily skin, combined with the NIVEA product range information, enabled consumers to choose the matching product from the series for their needs.

How it works:

  • Moderately press one test strip onto forehead for 3-5 seconds.
  • Moderately press other test strip onto cheek, also for 3-5 seconds.
  • Compare test strips to result fields, learn about your skin type and choose the appropriate product out of the NIVEA product series.

How does the tester work?

The Skin Type Test reacts to sebum on the skin, allowing the consumer to determine whether she/he has dry, normal, combination or oily skin within seconds.

How it works:

  • The test strip 1 is carefully taken out and pressed on the forehead for 3-5 seconds.
  • Then test strip 2 is carefully taken out and pressed onto the cheek, also for 3-5 seconds.
  • As a next step compare the test results of the test strip 1 and 2 with the reference fields.
  • Each result is guiding the consumer to their best product match out of the Nivea product range.
