UV Intensity Campaign

About the project

Clarins wanted to assist consumers to choose the appropriate SPF factor and educate them about how UV radiation impacts the skin. During the day, UV radiation may vary between low and very high. As a result, choosing a sunscreen that is lower than the UV radiation may result in sunburned skinned instead of beautifully tanned skin.

What was the challenge?

The Clarins Team was looking for a tool which could demonstrate the intensity of UV radiation. Another goal was to increase UV awareness and the need for the appropriate SPF protection to prevent sunburn.

How did USP Solutions help?

The USP Solutions’ challenge was to translate Clarins’ needs to a brand activation tool that enabled consumers to touch and feel the brand, thus educating consumers about using sunscreen with the accurate SPF factor. The experts at USP Solutions knew that in order to create and support brand loyalty, they had to find a way to engage the consumers’ senses.

USP Solutions developed concepts, which were sent to the Clarins marketing team for review. The experts at USP Solutions proposed that the UV Intensity technology was the best technological match for this campaign.

Once it was decided how the haptic tester experience could be implemented in the campaign, USP took complete responsibility, handling everything from artwork creation/integration to printing and on-time delivery.

How does the tester work?

The UV Intensity test area reacts by changing color when it is exposed to UV radiation. Depending on UV radiation intensity the test area changes from light to dark purple. The darker the test field, the more intense the UV radiation; in this case the sunscreen’s SPF factor must be higher be to protect the skin against sun damage.

How it works:

  • Expose wristband to UV radiation.
  • Depending on UV intensity, the test area will change its color ranging from light to dark purple.

About the project

Clarins needed a tool to support their beauty specialist in the engagement and efficacy validation for a new product launch. Their pore shrinking and skin mattifying serum. They did not want to have just another educational leaflet. They wanted an engaging tool that helped start a meaningful conversation with their consumer, catching their time and attention while proving the efficacy of the product.

How did USP Solutions help?

USP Solutions proposed a pore mapping technology that works in seconds at POS. A modern tool that gave instant information about the status of the consumer’s pores. Showing the benefit before and after product usage. The consumer was literally visibly astounded by the instant efficacy power that the Clarins product delivered. The reaction was validated by the tool that visually showed a difference. Shifting selling into consulting and proving the efficacy of the Clarins serum, in seconds at the POS.

Working closely with the Clarins marketing team, a format for the tool was agreed upon, the artwork finalized, and then the highly skilled production team made sure to have the testers ready and shipped to its destination within the defined timelines.

The experts at USP Solutions knew that to demonstrate product truth it was necessary to find a way to engage the consumers’ senses.

USP Solutions developed initial concepts, which were sent to the Clarins marketing team for review. The experts at USP Solutions proposed that the Hydration Test was the best technological match for this campaign.

Once it was decided how the haptic tester experience could be implemented in the campaign, USP took complete responsibility, handling everything from artwork implementation to printing and on-time delivery.

How does the tester work?

The Hydration Test reacts to sebum on the skin, allowing the consumer to determine the shine level of his/her skin.

How it works:

  • Peel off the BEFORE sticker.
  • Press onto the back of your hand.
  • Remove and compare to the moisture key.
  • Next, find the serum and moisturizer that’s right for you.
  • Then repeat the test with the AFTER sticker.
  • Remove and compare to the moisture key to see the super-quenching results.
